There will never be a lack of people who respond to fat acceptance with “Well, sure, but you don’t mean, like, FAT people, right?”
Puh-reach! Like the people who are ‘but what about those people who are 700lbs! They can’t even get out of bed!’ because you know, there are SO many people who are that big, and obviously EVERY fat person is going to end up like that. I mean, duh!
The “Fat Acceptance Only for the Acceptably Fat” crowd are just invested in getting us to consent to them drawing a line. It doesn’t really matter where they are trying to draw it at any given point. What they really care is that we let them draw a line, because then they turn this not into a discussion of rights, respect, and dignity, but one into a negotiation of who they get to deprive of rights, respect, and dignity. And once we enter into that negotiation, it won’t end until the fat shamers get every little inch of ground they wanted. That’s what “drawing a line” is really about. They don’t give a damn about the people they want to put on the wrong side of the line. They just want to preserve their system of good weights and bad weights.
